February 2023: PhD position in single-molecule biophysics, protein engineering, high-throughput sequencing and screening

The Lab for Molecular Engineering of Synthetic Systems (Prof. Michael Nash; https://nash.chemie.unibas.ch/en/ ) focuses on single-molecule methods for biological analysis and high-throughput screening for directed evolution. The group is jointly affiliated with the University of Basel (Physical Chemistry) and ETH Zurich (Dept. of Biosystems Science and Engineering in Basel, Switzerland). We are recruiting a full time PhD student for a project that focuses on therapeutic binding proteins (non-antibody scaffolds), high-throughput screening and sequencing.

Your position: The Nash Lab invites applications for a research assistant position in the area of molecular bioengineering, protein biophysics, high-throughput screening and sequencing. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of new high-throughput screening methodology including analysis, visualization and interpretation of large-scale DNA sequencing and protein structural data.

You profile: Candidates should have a strong technical background in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering or other relevant discipline and should have completed a BSc or MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. Experience and knowledge of computer programming in Python, R, or other relevant software language is a plus. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.  We encourage applications from curious, driven and hard-working personalities with strong social skills and team spirit.

We offer:

  • A vibrant international research environment
  • An exciting interdisciplinary research project
  • A stimulating and supportive research team
  • Access to state-of-the-art techniques and infrastructure
  • Matriculation in a PhD program at the University of Basel or ETH Zurich

The initial appointment will be for 12 months with possibility for extension.

Applications/contact: To apply please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of University diploma, and contact information for 2-3 references to Prof. Michael Nash
