November 2021: Research assistant in data science for molecular bioengineering (50-100%)

The Lab for Molecular Engineering of Synthetic Systems (Prof. Michael Nash; ) focuses on single-molecule methods for biological analysis and high-throughput screening for directed evolution. The group is jointly affiliated with the University of Basel (Physical Chemistry) and ETH Zurich (Dept. of Biosystems Science and Engineering in Basel, Switzerland). We are recruiting a part time or full time (50-100%) research assistant in data science applied to molecular bioengineering.

Your position: The Nash Lab invites applications for a research assistant position in the area of data science applied to molecular bioengineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of software tools and bioinformatic workflows to assist in the analysis, visualization and interpretation of large-scale DNA sequencing and protein structural data to unveil sequence-structure-function relationships in complex artificial proteins.

You profile: Candidates should have a strong technical background in scientific computing, data science, or analysis of big data with a completed BSc or MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. The position will suit someone with an interest in software engineering, big data, and statistical learning. Experience and knowledge of biological systems or protein engineering methodology is a plus. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.  We encourage applications from curious, driven and hard-working personalities with strong social skills and team spirit.

The initial appointment will be for 12 months with possibility for extension. Transition to a position as a matriculated PhD student following initial success in the position is possible. Both part time (>50%) and full time (100%) working arrangements are possible with a flexible starting date.
